I've read a lot of HDR tutorials, but I've not seen such that give this sort of result, especially from a single exposure.

Really interested as to how you did this.

First of all, let me say that your art is really very nice! I like it alot!
The hdr is pretty easy. I open a photo in photoshop cs3, convert it to 16bit and then using the photomatix tonemapping plug-in that you can download, I tonemap the image and then take the origional image (with a mask over it) and paint back in some of the origional parts to make it a bit more realistic. After that you can use a few adjustment layers for curves and saturation or whatever you like. When your done, flatten the image, change it to 8bit and save it as a jpeg. A lot of it is just messing around with everything in the tone mapping, some photos work better than others. I hope this helps. And thanks for the compliment:)
